OVERVIEW:
Ni Kadek Candriyani  (pronounced Chan-dree-yaaah-neee) was born on 31st December 1992.  When we started visiting Panti Asuhan Bina Usaha Mulya, in Karangasem, in early 2007,  it was in search of a second orphanage home which housed children with hearing difficulties (amongst other disabilities).  It was our wish to extend our Bikabele Hearing Aid Program further to assist more children who were hearing impaired to give them more opportunities in life.

At the time of our first visits, Candriyani was one of the older girls in the group, and was hearing impaired.  So she was selected to receive sponsorship in the first group of children to give her some help before she got too much older.  As with all things with children, the younger they are, the faster they seem to learn, young brains seem to learn things quicker than old brains!

So Sydney based  Russell, who has been a huge supporter of all things Bikabele, since our inception, and previously visited the Klungkung orphanage with us, decided it was time to sponsor a child in the program, and Candriyani was the lucky recipient of Russell's generosity.

Being one of the older girls, and the type of girl she is...Candriyani was really in a lot of ways a bit of a mother figure to all the other children.  She has a beautiful personality and seems to be very intelligent indeed.  Once she received her hearing aids in April 2007, Candriyani just progressed forward in leaps and bounds.  She worked hard in her Speech Therapy, and she works and tries hard in anything at all which is placed before her.  She really did develop into the main leader in the Hearing Aid Program, encouraging her younger friends and helping them with all manner of things.

When we commenced the Balinese Traditional Dancing classes at Karangasem, of course, again Candriyani embraced the program, and really amazed us with her efforts.  She developed into an absolutely stunning dancer, and always lead the main dances when they were staged for our visits or other occassions.  To see her dressed up in her dancing costume, together with her beautiful looks, and then see her dance, is really something else, and we are so very proud of her.

Sponsor, Russell joined us in Bali again in 2009, and met Candriyani when we held a Dance Festival for all the children of both orphanages, and Swara-Swari, in the Tanjung Benoa area.  He was most proud by the beautiful girl that he saw dancing on the stage - so he well should be.

In 2012  we had noticed Candriyani wasnt present when we visited one time, which was most unusual, only to be told she has now moved on from the orphanage and was now married.  We then learnt during our next visit (as we still do enquire about he one's who leave) that she is pregnant.

We were happy to contact Russell and tell him he is going to become a grandfather!  We are as thrilled as Russell is, and obviously wish Candriyani and her new husband all the best with the birth of their child.  Bikabele is quite excited by the thought that the Bear will also become a grand-daddy Bear!

The carers at the Karangasem orphanage know our wish is for any of the hearing aid program children who get to that age and have to move on, or chose to move on for whatever the reason may be, that they are always welcome to re-visit during Lumina's visits, to have their ears and hearing aids tested and checked, and get a supply of batteries.   It was explained to us in the latest visit, that, now Candriyani is married, this must be with the blessing of her husband.  So we can only hope he'll be keen for her continued assistance with her hearing, but we will wait and see what the outcome will be.

We hope to one day try and meet with Candriyani, at the orphanage, or elsewhere, and we hope meet her husband and her baby once that time comes.

Obviously both Russell's and Bikabele's best wishes go out to Candriyani and her husband, and we look forward to further news.

UPDATES:   Will be posted here from now on, as we can learn any news
